About Department
Founded as The University Department of English with the inception of the Kolhan University in August, 2009, the Department transformed itself into the University Department of English and Cultural Studies to incorporate the emerging dimensions of the culture discourse in English Studies.
With an average annual intake of 60 students in P.G Programme in English, the department caters to the higher academic needs of the aspirants of the Kolhan region. The P.G curriculum is modeled on the CBCS pattern which is periodically updated to expose our learners to the ever-evolving academic horizons. The classrooms of the department are well equipped with Smart boards and the other ICT aids which make the teaching- learning experience highly gratifying.
The Department offers Ph.D. Programme in English and promotes researches in areas like Translation Studies, Diaspora Writings, Culture Studies, Travel Writings, Film Studies and the Literatures from the Margin. There are ten Ph.D scholars who have been awarded the Ph.D. in English by the university while nine scholars are on the verge of presenting their Pre-Submission seminars. The research environment of the department is further enriched by the influx of the NET/JRF candidates from the neighboring states of Odisha and West Bengal.
The Department organized online webinars and lectures, inviting speakers from different Universities of the Country and kept the flag of learning flying during the highly debilitating phase of the Covid 19 epidemic.
The University Department of English and Cultural Studies works with the motto of instilling human values in the aspirational learners while also creating opportunities for them to hone their creative and professional skills.
The Department has been headed by Scholars and excepentionally talented administrators: Dr. S.K. Sinha; Dr. B.M. Mishra; Dr. A.K. Pal; Dr. Kanchan Mala; Dr.R.S. Dayal; Dr. Sanjai Yadav
